Met Eireann says sunny spells to give way to rain and wind by afternoon in Dublin

Met Eireann has predicted sunny spells and isolated showers today ahead of stronger winds and heavier rainfall on Thursday.

The morning will start off mild with some light showers, which will become isolated in the afternoon. The weather will move away from sunshine towards cloud cover from evening onwards, with some light drizzle and rain expected before nightfall.

The forecast also predicts mild to moderate southwesterly winds to break out in the afternoon, which may escalate at night time. Highest temperatures during the day range from 12 to 14 degrees, which will dip no further than 10 degrees by the evening.

The winds are likely to become much stronger by Thursday, with the risk of localised flooding this week being amplified during heavy showers.

Here is the national outlook for today and Thursday.

Today

Sunny spells and scattered showers this morning, with showers becoming isolated through the middle of the day. It will become cloudier in the west during the afternoon with some patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle developing. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, while moderate southwesterly winds will freshen through the afternoon, becoming strong near western coasts.

Thursday

Mild, humid and very windy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 15 or 16 degrees in strong and gusty southwesterly winds, but they will ease somewhat during the evening.
