Met Éireann's weather forecast for the week ahead and exactly when high pressure will build again over Ireland in August

Met Éireann has given its weather forecast from now right through to August 21 in its latest monthly forecast with the country set for a mixed bag of weather in that time.

While this week will start relatively mild and dry, a low pressure system is expected in the first week of August, bringing with it "above average rainfall."

In its latest forecast, Met Éireann says: "Over the next week relatively high pressure will dominate most of the week bringing drier than average conditions, however with the predominantly northwest flow temperatures will remain near average for the time of year on average. Overall after this weekend, potential hazards will be low.

"Tomorrow [Monday] will start off cloudy with scattered showers. Becoming clearer through the afternoon and evening though, with some decent sunny spells developing. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees, staying coolest in the northwest. Light to moderate northwesterly winds, remaining fresh near coasts."

For the first week of August, they suggest "low pressure predominantly to the north of Ireland with an elongated upper level high to the south of Ireland, combined they will steer in westerly winds and a chance of above average rainfall in west Connacht and west Ulster, but holding a little drier than average in south Munster.

"Temperatures will remain around average for the time of year. Potential hazards will generally be low, although the northwest may have a slightly elevated risk with regards to rainfall."

From August 8 to 14, high pressure returns with a chance of some pleasant weather.

"High pressure builds in over the country bringing drier than average conditions across the country, temperatures will remain near average for the time of year in most areas, perhaps a little above average in the southeast. The potential for hazards will be low across the country through the period," Met Éireann said.

However, if that high pressure arrives, it will be a passing visitor with "a more neutral" pressure pattern due on August 15.

During that week, low pressure over Europe with bring "northeasterly winds over Ireland" and "it will remain drier than average with little change expected in temperatures as they remain generally close to average. Overall the potential for hazards will remain low."
