Met Eireann's miserable Dublin forecast but hotter weather is on the way

Met Eireann has issued a dull and damp forecast for Dublin as unsettled conditions will continue to dominate.

Heavy showers and winds will bring plummeting temperatures across Ireland. But a huge change is on the way as hotter than average weather could mark the return of settled conditions.

Speaking about next week, a Met Eireann forecaster said as part of the long-range forecast: "[...] high pressure will return over Ireland. This week will be more settled with drier than normal conditions in all areas. Temperatures are signalled to rise slightly, to become a degree above average across the island."

Today will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the morning and afternoon. Temperatures will stay around 16 or 17 degrees.

Tonight will be dry at first but outbreaks of rain and drizzle will develop by the morning. Temperatures will be around 12 or 13 degrees.

Tomorrow will be dull and damp with outbreaks of rain or drizzle. It will turn brighter in the afternoon with a dry evening forecasted. Temperatures will be around 19 to 21 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Thursday night

"Dry and clear in most areas, though there will be some showers along western coastal counties. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in mainly light southwest to west winds.

Friday

"Good sunny spells with scattered showers, most frequent towards the north of the country. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in mainly light westerly winds.

Friday night

"A band of rain is expected to pass over the country on Friday night, possibly turning heavy in northern parts. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees. Southwest to west winds, mainly light to moderate, though turning strong along western and northwestern coasts.

Saturday

"Rain turning to showers with occasional sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees, warmest in the southeast, in light to moderate westerly breezes.

Saturday night

"Cloudy with scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in mainly light southerly winds."
