Met Eireann's horrid weekend forecast before dramatic summer change to hit

Dublin will be lashed with heavy rain and strong winds as the weekend is set to be a washout.

Met Eireann has warned of persistent and thundery showers in the next few days but there's some good news. High pressure will start building next week signalling the return of summer weather. with dry and settled conditions.

Today will be dry with some sunny spells. There will be the chance of an odd, light shower. The highest temperatures will be 18 to 21 degrees,

Tonight will be dry at first but cloud is expected to build from the southwest later with outbreaks of rain following by morning. It will be a mild night with lows of 13 to 15 degrees.

Tomorrow will start off wet with outbreaks of rain that will clear northeastward during the morning bringing drier and brighter intervals. But the afternoon will bring more rain with highs of 20 to 23 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Saturday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A mild and humid night with showery outbreaks of rain, more persistent in the west and northwest. Some mist and hill fog will develop during the night before moderate southerly winds freshen towards morning, becoming strong on southern and western coasts.

"Temperatures won't fall lower than 14 or 15 degrees.

Sunday

"A breezy day with sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be heavy or thundery at times, especially in the west and north. Southwesterly winds will be fresh and gusty, increasing strong at times.

"Highest temperatures will range from 17 or 18 degrees along Atlantic coasts to 22 degrees in the east.

Sunday night

"Scattered showers will continue through the night but will become lighter. The best of the dry intervals will be in the east. Southwesterly winds will moderate and veer westerly. Continuing mild as well with temperatures generally not falling below 12 to 15 degrees.

Monday

"A good deal of cloud with scattered light showers continuing through the morning and afternoon before becoming largely confined to Atlantic coasts with some bright or sunny spells developing elsewhere. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees, coolest in the northwest with a mostly moderate onshore wind.

"It will be largely dry overnight with clear spells and just isolated showers.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

"A good deal of dry weather through midweek with just light showers. Feeling pleasant with sunny spells and light breezes with temperatures increasing slightly."
