Met Eireann's 30-day forecast hints at two weeks of warmer weather just around the corner

Met Eireann has issued their 30-day forecast for March and it shows some hopeful signs for warmer weather.

And we could be in for a very pleasant Paddy’s Day if current forecasts don't change.

In general, forecaster Matthew Martin from Met Eireann told the Irish Mirror : "Current guidance is suggesting that temperatures will be about 1 degree above normal over the next month.

"That's nothing too unusual. Overall, there aren't very big signals in the forecast - typical changeable March weather close to the climate norm is forecast."

Starting with this week, until March 6, there is less chance we’ll see the stormy weather that took over the past few weeks. There is an increased likelihood of settled conditions “albeit with some rain or showers at times”.

“Rainfall amounts overall are forecast to be below normal but some parts of the south and east may experience near or slightly above average rainfall totals,” the forecast said.

There are indications that high pressure will be “more prevalent over Ireland than in preceding weeks bringing a less unsettled picture”. As well as that, temperatures will be close to seasonal averages, allowing for some overnight frosts.

From week two, which begins on the 7th and ends on the 13th, it will be “somewhat more settled than average for early to mid-March with high pressure more dominant than usual”.

This being said, “there are no significant anomalies” during this week.

Temperatures will be just above normal levels, while rainfall is expected to be around the seasonal mean.

The forecast said: “The risk of storminess is reduced as compared to the seasonal average.”

St Patrick’s Day falls in week three, which starts on the 14th and ending on the 20th.

Met Eireann said that there is a “tentative signal” for more settled weather, “compared to normal for mid-March with high pressure more prevalent than the seasonal mean”.

Mean temperatures are forecast “to be above normal”, which could mean that March 17 could be a decent day.

However, precipitation totals are expected to be “close to or slightly above average” for the middle of March.

Finally on to week four, beginning on the 21st and ending on the 27th.

Met Eireann said: “There is limited signal in the forecast in Week four.”

They did say, however, that “some subtle weather conditions over Ireland will be more settled than average with high pressure more of a feature than normal” for that time of year.

Temperatures and rainfall are expected to be close to the seasonal norm.
