Met Eireann has forecast the return of thunder and lightning across Ireland as a low pressure system continues to dominate and weather warnings are issued.
This afternoon, the weather experts published a status yellow thunderstorm warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork, Waterford spanning across the rest of the weekend.
The alert comes into effect at 11:00 pm tonight and will remain in place until 9:00 am on Sunday morning.
It warns: “Several bands of heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected tonight (Saturday) and early tomorrow morning (Sunday), leading to spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions.”
As for the rest of the country, there will be showery rain over the northern half of the country, which will slowly begin to clear away to the north into the evening.
It will continue to be generally drier and brighter elsewhere, however further heavy showers will be moving up from the south over Munster and south Leinster this evening.
Some of the showers will be heavy and spot flooding is possible while there is also a low chance of an isolated thunderstorm.
Tonight, some showery rain and heavy showers or thunderstorms are expected in the south with a continued risk of spot flooding.
It will be mostly dry with clear spells and patches of mist and fog further north but the heavy showery rain will extend from the south as the night goes on, however northern fringes should stay mostly dry till morning.
