It will be an icy start to the day on St Stephen’s Day with "hazardous" road conditions expected in some areas.
Met Eireann has issued a Status Yellow warning for ice for the whole of Ireland which came into force earlier today at 5.39am and will be valid until 10am on Monday morning.
According to the national forecaster, it will be icy in some places in the morning which will lead to "hazardous travelling conditions, especially on untreated roads and paths."
Meanwhile, a Status Yellow ice warning is also in place for six counties in Northern Ireland; Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry. The alert will expire at 10am and states: "Ice may cause some delays and difficulties at first on Monday."
The weather for the rest of the day on St Stephen's Day will see a chance of snow as showers spread across the country and could fall as snow on higher grounds.
A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A cold day with sunshine and scattered showers, some turning to sleet with snow possible over hills.
"Afternoon temperatures of 3C to 7C, coldest in the north, with moderate to fresh, occasionally strong, westerly winds.
Tonight, temperatures will drop again with some places falling as low as -2C with frost developing, but temperatures will rise again throughout the night as rain travels over the country from the west.
A forecaster said: "Cold and frosty early tonight with temperatures falling to between -2C and 4C, temperatures will rise overnight as cloud and rain spreads from the west with fresh to strong and gusty southerly winds."
