Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning for Munster, Connacht and Donegal with brutal conditions to batter the country all day.
In its warning, forecasters predict "further heavy showers and thunderstorms coupled with strong and gusty southwesterly winds and possible falls of hail."
"Disruption is expected including spot flooding and dangerous road conditions, especially near coasts," they added.

The warning came into effect at 8.30am and is valid until 9pm tonight.
As a reprieve, Met Éireann is predicting a "calm, bright, and mostly dry start" to Sunday morning.
They say: "Cloud will build from the south through the day, bringing outbreaks of heavy rain during the afternoon and evening. Rain will reach the northeast in the evening. Becoming breezy with the rain as southeast winds increase fresh to strong and gusty. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees."
Rain will clear northwards overnight on Sunday into Monday, with clear spells following.
"Showers will continue in the west and northwest. Breezy with moderate to fresh southerly winds, strong along coasts. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees, coolest in Ulster," the latest forecast says.
Looking to next week, Met Éireann said: "A drier day on Monday with spells of sunshine and some showers in the north. Breezy at first with moderate to fresh southwest winds, easing mostly light later. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.
"A cold, dry and mostly clear night. Some mist and fog will develop in light easterly or variable winds. Lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees, milder in the south.
"A good deal of dry weather [on Tuesday] with sunny spells for most, though it will turn cloudier through the day with some light rain and drizzle in southern areas. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds."
Tuesday night will be "a breezy, mostly dry and clear night with cloud, rain or drizzle lingering in southern areas. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in moderate to fresh easterly winds."
Wednesday will be mostly dry with sunny spells over the northern half over the country.
"Rain, heavy at times, will slowly push northwards from southern area through the day. Another windy day with fresh to strong easterly winds. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees."
Beyond that, forecasters say it will be "remaining unsettled late into the week, though current indications suggest high pressure will build for the weekend, bringing mostly dry and settled weather."
