Met Eireann issues 10-hour weather warning for Ireland as hazardous conditions to hit

Met Eireann has issued a 10-hour yellow warning for all of Ireland.

A thunderstorm and rain alert will be in place from 12pm until 10pm today. The national forecaster is warning of heavy showers with possible thunderstorms.

This could lead to spot flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling conditions. The UK Met Office has also issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Derry from 10.30 am to 8pm today.

A chaotic day is in store as Met Eireann has forecasted possible hail and localised flooding as thundery downpours will batter the country. The national forecaster said: "A mix of cloud and sunny spells with showers becoming widespread and turning heavy through the morning.

"Thunderstorms will develop for the afternoon and evening bringing the possibility of hail and localised flooding. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in light south to southwest breezes."

Tonight

"Tonight, the heavy showers and thunderstorms will ease, becoming mostly confined to northern and Atlantic coastal areas though isolated showers may continue further inland. Temperatures not falling below 10 to 14 degrees in light southwesterly breezes with some mist or fog patches developing.

Tomorrow

"A mix of cloud and sunny spells tomorrow with scattered showers developing in the morning. Some showers will turn heavy or possibly thundery during the afternoon and evening. A clearance to drier conditions with better sunshine will gradually build from the west through the day with the showers becoming mostly confined to southern and eastern counties.

"Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees in mostly light westerly winds.

Wednesday night

"Any lingering heavy showers in the east will clear away quickly to leave a dry night for most with long clear spells though a few light showers may affect Atlantic coastal counties. Temperatures not falling below 8 to 13 degrees in light variable breezes."
