Met Eireann issue Status Orange warning for Ireland as severe chill of -10C to set in with snow in three counties

Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange weather warning for all of Ireland as temperature could possibly plummet to -10C tomorrow night.

The low temperature and ice warning will kick in from 5pm on Sunday and will remain in place until 12pm Monday.

The alert reads: "A severe frost and further icy stretches will set in on Sunday night, accompanied by patches of freezing fog. Temperatures likely to fall below -5 degrees in many areas."

However, temperatures could plunge to as low as -10C in some areas on Monday morning, according to a Met Eireann temperature forecast model shared on Twitter by Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather.

This comes as three separate Status Yellow weather warnings are in place overnight on Saturday while Met Eireann has said the freezing weather blast will last until next weekend.

A snow warning has also been issued for three counties in the east on Saturday as Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare are forecast to be blanketed with snow overnight.

A nationwide Status Yellow weather warning for freezing fog is in place until noon on Sunday. It reads: “Pockets of freezing fog are expected, causing potentially hazardous travel conditions."

Another nationwide Status Yellow weather warning for ice is also in place from 10pm Saturday until noon on Sunday. It reads: “A sharp frost and further icy stretches will set in on Saturday night as temperatures dip to -5 degrees in places."

A third Status Yellow snow warning is in place for Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow from 11pm on Saturday until noon on Sunday, reading: “Snow showers will lead to accumulations in places, most substantial over high ground."

Driving conditions across the country continue to be "very hazardous" and motorists and pedestrians have been urged to take extra care to watch out for black ice on roads and footpaths in a new Met Eireann advisory.

For next week we can expect more severe frosts, ice, freezing fog and wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow as the conditions show no signs of stopping.

The Arctic chill could last another seven days as the national forecaster said: "Current indications suggest that the very cold weather will continue on Friday and into next weekend."
