Met Eireann Ireland forecast sees big change on the way with blustery conditions expected

Met Eireann is predicting a big change is on the way with "strong winds" expected in the coming days.

Today will begin mostly dry, though patchy light rain and drizzle in western areas will gradually extend eastwards.

Becoming windy by afternoon as a spell of more persistent rain moves into the west and northwest, spreading across the country through the day.

Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees.

Tonight will become largely dry with clear spells. However, scattered showers will persist, mainly over Ulster where some may turn to sleet over hills and mountains.

Alan O’Reilly at Carlow Weather tweeted: "A cool start for many with some frost but mainly dry this morning. Storm Corrie is brewing out to the Northwest and will bring some strong winds last this afternoon and evening with a band of rain also.

"The boring weather is coming to an end with strong winds at times over the coming days.

“The increased wind over the coming days will be welcomed by the Irish electricity grid which has been suffering badly over the last few weeks with high pressure keeping winds light.”

Tomorrow it will start off dry and turn cloudier by afternoon with patchy light rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest.

Highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate to fresh northwest to west winds, backing westerly later.
