Met Eireann Ireland forecast pinpoints when settled weather will end as awful conditions to hit

Ireland is set to see a massive change in weather with Met Eireann warning of nasty wet and windy conditions.

Settled conditions aren't here to last as the weekend will bring heavy rain and strong winds.

Today will be mostly dry and cloudy but sunny spells are expected through the day. Temperatures will be around 6 to 10 degrees.

Tonight will be cold with the mercury dipping to as low as -1 degrees. It will be a dry night with a mix of clouds and clear spells.

Patchy mist and fog will form in light southwest breezes along with some frost in places.

Tomorrow will see mist and fog easing giving way to a mostly dry morning with a mix of cloud and some brighter spells.

But outbreaks of rain will develop in the northwest during the afternoon, gradually extending southeastwards during the evening.

The highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees are predicted.

Here is the forecast for the rest of the week:

Wednesday night

"Outbreaks of rain will continue to sink southwards over the country during Wednesday night, with drier and clearer conditions following from the north.

"Remaining fairly mild too with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees. Moderate southwesterly winds will veer westerly and ease overnight.

Thursday

"Any remaining patchy light rain will clear east in the morning with drier and bright conditions extending countrywide by afternoon, with some nice spells of sunshine developing. Highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees as mostly moderate westerly winds veer northwesterly.

Thursday night

"Mainly dry and chilly on Thursday night with some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of -1 to +3 degrees in light variable winds with frost and fog developing.

Friday

"Cloud will increase on Friday morning with outbreaks of light rain or drizzle, most frequent in the west. Highest temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees in light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Friday night

"Outbreaks of rain will continue overnight with the heaviest and most frequent falls in the west of the country.

"It will becoming milder overnight with lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees in moderate to occasionally fresh southwest winds.

Saturday

"Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, heaviest and most frequent in the north and west. After a very mild start with highest temperatures of 8 to 14 degrees it will becoming cooler as the day progresses in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

Sunday

"A bit of uncertainty for Sunday with the potential for a period of wet and blustery conditions.

"After a mostly cloudy start a band of wet and windy weather will sweep across the country during the afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall over the north of the country. Highs of 9 to 12 degree in fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Further outlook

"A bit of uncertainty for Sunday with the potential for a period of wet and blustery conditions before more settled conditions early next week."
