Met Eireann ice warning kicks in for Dublin as sudden change expected in coming days

A yellow ice warning has kicked in for all of Ireland with Met Eireann predicting a very cold night ahead for Dublin.

Temperatures are expected to drop to at least -3C tonight before dropping to even colder levels on Thursday night. The big freeze is expected to continue until midday tomorrow with the warning in place until then.

Met Eireann says: "Icy stretches leading to hazardous travelling conditions. Wintry showers continuing. Freezing rain possible in the southwest. Freezing fog patches." The wintry weather advisory continues until Friday.

But a sudden change will arrive this weekend as conditions turn milder. Temperatures are expected to go as high as 12C on Sunday.

Tonight's forecast says: "This evening and tonight will be very cold with frost and icy stretches forming. It will be largely dry with clear spells, although isolated wintry showers are possible early on in the night. Lowest temperatures of 0 to -3 degrees with light and variable winds."

While tomorrow we can expect "a cold and dry day with sunny spells". Thursday night will be another chilly one with Met Eireann warning: "Another very cold night with minimum temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees. It will be dry with clear spells early on but it will become cloudy overnight and rain or sleet will develop across Connacht, Munster and parts of south Leinster. Patches of mist and fog are likely, in light and variable winds."
