Met Eireann’s long-range weather forecast for the month of June could come as a surprise to some.
Anyone expecting a mild, dry and warm start to the summer will likely be left disappointed.
The national forecaster has all but ruled out any chance of an early summer heatwave, saying current indications are for temperatures to remain around normal for this time of the year.

Meanwhile, there looks to be little chance of prolonged bright and sunny conditions, as low pressure is expected to dominate for much of the month.
Low pressure is a type of weather system which brings cloud, wind and rain to Ireland.
While Met Eireann says that “forecasts beyond one week become increasingly uncertain due to the chaotic nature of the atmosphere”, it does make monthly predictions to help “give an insight into weather patterns in the month ahead”.
The best of the weather for June looks set to be this weekend and early next week - but only for half of the country.

In its long-range predictions for the week of Friday, June 10 to Thursday, June 16, the national forecaster said: “For week one, low pressure will dominate to the north of the country, with high pressure exerting its influence over the southern half of the country.
“This will lead to a chance of higher than average rainfall amounts for northern areas, with lower than average amounts forecast elsewhere.
“Temperatures are forecast to be about average for the time of year.”
It’s not good news for the following week, with the meteorological service predicting above-average rainfall.
For the week of Friday, June 17 to Thursday, June 23, Met Eireann said: “Looking into week two, low pressure looks set to be the dominant pressure pattern influencing our weather, leading to a signal for slightly higher than average rainfall amounts for the period.
“Temperatures in the south may be slightly higher than average, with average amounts expected elsewhere.”
While there is “uncertainty” for the week of June 24 until June 30, the national forecaster said: “Week three looks to have a similar signal for low pressure over the country, although there is higher uncertainty for this period. Temperatures again look set to be normal for the time of year.”
Anyone hoping for a summer blast at the start of July could also be disappointed.
Met Eireann says of the week of Friday, July 1 to Thursday, July 7: “By the first week of July, uncertainty in the forecast increases, although there is once again a signal for low pressure to the north of the country. This again means that there is a chance of slightly higher than average amounts of precipitation. Temperatures are signalled to remain normal for the time of year.”
