Met Eireann forecasts rain and mild temperatures for Dublin before mercury plummets to subzero

Good morning, folks!

Met Eireann has issued a rather dull forecast for the day. However, Dublin will enjoy a couple of days of mild temperatures before the mercury is set to drop to freezing on Thursday night.

Today will start off cloudy but mainly dry with light winds. However, cloud will thicken a little later leading to patchy light rain and drizzle drifts down from the northwest later in the afternoon. Mild today with the highest temperatures this afternoon of 9 to 11 degrees.

Similar conditions will continue into the night with patchy rain and drizzle at times. Some dry intervals will develop from the northwest tonight. Temperatures will be around 6 to 8 degrees.

Tomorrow will start with cloud and patchy rain or drizzle. However, light southwest winds will turn northwesterly as any lingering rain clears away leaving a mix of cloudy periods and some sunny spells by late morning. Temperatures will be around 7 to 10 degrees.

There is no further forecast for Dublin and here's what the national outlook says:

Wednesday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "A little cloudy in the south and north of the country with some patchy light rain or drizzle. Staying dry elsewhere with clear spells into the night. It will turn chilly as cool air from the north plunges down over the country in that northerly breeze so our lows will dip down to 2 to 5 degrees.

Thursday

"High pressure builds over the country so it will be a calm but somewhat cloudy start Thursday morning. Some sunny spells will develop during the afternoon but it will stay a little cooler with highest afternoon temperatures of only 6 to 8 degrees in light northerly breezes.

Thursday night

"Any cloud will clear to leave a mostly clear and dry night. Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing widely so there is the risk of icy stretches and ground frost. Winds will be mostly light and variable with lowest temperatures of 2 to -2 degrees."
