Met Eireann forecasts gloomy weather for Dublin but mercury set to hit 22 degrees

Met Eireann has issued a rather gloomy forecast for Dublin but there is some good news.

While it'll be a dull day with cloud and rain, the heat spell is here to stay this week.

But temperatures are set to dive this weekend with low pressure bringing long spells of rain.

Today will start off with dull skies and patchy outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

It will be drier in the afternoon but cloudy spells may bring showers.

Bright and sunny spells may make an appearance later. The highest temperatures will be from 17 to 19 degrees.

Tonight will be calm but generally damp and misty with outbreaks of drizzle.

Tomorrow will start off dull with patches of mist and drizzle.

However, sunny spells will break through in the afternoon and it'll be a warm day with temperatures hitting the highs of 22 degrees.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, here is what the national outlook says:

Wednesday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Dry and clear in most areas. Cloud will increase in from the west with some patchy light rain or drizzle developing along coasts near morning. Lows not falling below 9 to 13 degrees in light westerly or variable breezes."

Thursday

"Quite cloudy again on Thursday with some patchy outbreaks of light rain or drizzle during the morning.

"Becoming drier and brighter later in the afternoon and through the evening hours. Highest temperatures of 17 to 22 degrees, warmest in the southeast in light to moderate westerly winds.

Thursday night

"Cloud will build in from the west Thursday night as patchy rain reaches Atlantic coasts. Mild with temperatures generally not falling below 9 to 13 degrees in moderate to fresh southerly breezes.

Friday

"Friday looks to be a wet day with a band of rain spreading west through the country, followed by showers and sunny spells. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 with light to moderate southerly winds.

Weekend

"Saturday and Sunday look to be quite unsettled with low pressure dominating the weather over Ireland, bringing showers or longer spells of rain with temperatures in the mid to high teens, and moderate variable breezes."
