Messages flood in to mum of 'little fighter' who died age 3

Messages of support have come pouring in for the mum of a little boy who "fought so hard" for months battling a deadly disease.

At just three-years-old, young Lloyd Cheung lost his battle with cancer and died in his mother's arms on November 4 at Alder Hey Hospital. mum Sarah was told in October that there was nothing else that could be done and it was "only a matter of time", but Lloyd continued to fight.

The ECHO previously reported how the young boy, who loved fire engines and Spider-Man, was taken outside for fresh air the day before, but he "deteriorated rapidly" and had a "really tough night". Hundreds of tributes have since come pouring in for the grieving family.

ECHO reader Sue Trudgeon said: "I've got a son the same age and the thought is unbearable. Absolutely devastating for him and his family, my thoughts and love go out to them all."

Tracey Levine added: "Sending my deepest condolences to Lloyd's mum, family and friends at this awful time. Take care and RIP Lloyd, fly high little man", as Nickie Price said: "Every mothers worst nightmare.

"First of all my heart breaks that Lloyd had to go through such a cruel time in his young much loved life. And thoughts and prayers to his family and friends."

Back in 2021, Sarah Cheung knew something was wrong with her youngest son Lloyd when he began vomiting, walking into things and was having silent seizures. But being told it was just a virus, Sarah knew something "wasn't right" as the three-year-old was "sleeping a lot".

Eventually, Lloyd was diagnosed with an atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumour (ATRT) - an aggressive and rare tumour of the central nervous system. But in May of this year, the family were given some good news when doctor's said Lloyd was in remission.

However, this hope came "crashing down" when in July 2022, Lloyd had another tumour in the front of his head and four down his spine, meaning his cancer had returned and was rapidly spreading. Despite the lengthy battle, young Lloyd remained positive throughout as he "gave his best fight".

Claire Smith said: "Bless you Lloyd you fought hard , we were in the hospital at the same time with our little man x bless all of you, be strong just like Lloyd" as Charlie Emina added: "Broke my heart hearing the news today and couldn’t hold the tears in. Lloyd the bravest there is, such a fighter. He memory will live on in us all. Sarah such a brave strong mum"

Close friend Laura Kehrwieder launched a fundraiser for the family, which has so far raised almost £4,000. To donate to the fundraiser, click here.

Keeping people updated on Lloyd's journey via his Instagram page, Sarah shared the heart-breaking news with her followers. Sharing a smiling picture of young Lloyd, she wrote: "Lloyd Remi Lewis Cheung 17/12/18 - 04/11/22 forever 3".
