Merseyside set to miss 'Arctic plunge' with heavy snow predicted

The Merseyside region looks like it could escape an 'Arctic plunge' at the end of the month, when there is expected to be heavy snow and icy conditions.

People have had to wrap up warm this week with temperatures dropping down to -7C on Friday but while the mercury is starting to rise, the winter is not yet over.

Maps for WXCharts show that temperatures are set to drop to sub zero around January 31 and the first week of February is expected to see heavy snow fall, Mirror Online reports.

On February 5 the mercury could fall to as low as -10C in Scotland while there could be up to 90cm of snow in the far north west of the UK.

In England there could be up to eight centimetres falling in Manchester, but Merseyside and Cheshire looks like it could escape the severe sub zero temperatures.

Maps from WXCharts show that heavy snow is likely in the first week of February (wxcharts)
