Merseyrail train cancelled after man 'assaulted' staff member

A Merseyrail service was disrupted this morning after reports of a man "assaulting" a train guard.

Trains on the Southport to Hunts Cross line were disrupted and one was cancelled following the alleged assault. An eyewitness who was due to take the 7.57am train said the driver announced it was cancelled "due to an assault on the train guard at Southport".

A spokesperson for British Transport Police told the ECHO it didn't receive reports of an assault taking place regarding the Merseyrail service. The spokesperson said: "We haven’t received any reports of an assault taking place.
