A blocked Merseyrail line is causing rush-hour cancellations and delays in Wirral.
The travel provider first reported issues on the New Brighton and West Kirby lines at 2.38pm on Monday, July 4, following an "obstruction on the track". A number of services in both directions were cancelled following the initial discovery of the "object" on the line.
Merseyrail then started terminating and starting trains at Birkenhead Park due to the incident, causing travel chaos for commuters. Merseyrail tweeted one of its customers saying a rail replacement bus service was not being provided as it expected the line to reopen soon.

Greg Suligowski, Head of Customer Strategy at Merseyrail, said: "There was an object on the line in the Birkenhead Park area. It’s now been removed, and services are now beginning to resume.
"There will still be some delays and cancellations until we can restore the full timetable. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused."
Merseyrail was unable to confirm what the object blocking the railway tracks was. People whose journeys were affected by today's incident may be entitled to a refund or compensation.
