New Cumnock swimming pool will transform into a magical moana from this weekend as youngsters are being offered the chance to bring their mermaid dreams to life.
A series of mermaid workshops, starting from this Saturday, will allow kids aged eight and older to take to water with a fitted mermaid tail and experience life as a sea-maid.
Participants will spend 45 minutes making waves as they try their hand at ‘mermaiding’ in the pool, including taking part in some fun games.
And what better way to soak up the mer-mazing experience than at Scotland's only freshwater open-air swimming pool – which is currently open for pre-booked public swimming.
Claire Smart from A Mermaid’s Tail, who will be taking the classes, said the workshop is “a full body workout”.
She said: “The sessions are aimed at those who are already confident in the water and can swim 25 metres unaided.
“Participants are given the training needed to feel confident in the water while wearing a tail, before learning how to do a dolphin kick and taking part in a series of fun games.
“People are often surprised to hear that mermaiding is actually a full body workout as moving through the water while wearing a tail provides unique resistance.”
The sessions will take place on Saturday, August 13; August 20 and August 27 from 11am until 11.45am. Bookings are essential and can be made by emailing clairesmart7@hotmail.com
