Merewether street bashing accused faces court: four victims were hospitalised

A MAN allegedly involved in a bashing on a Newcastle street that left four young men hospitalised with facial injuries has had his bail continued in court.

Taranvir Pannu, 18, was arrested on August 11, hours after a group of people allegedly attacked four 22-year-old men on Hickson Street at Merewether just after midnight.

Mr Pannu is accused of being part of the group that assaulted the men.

Police called to the scene at the time were told the 22-year-olds had allegedly been attacked by several men, who had fled the area before emergency crews arrived.

Mr Pannu, of East Maitland, was arrested about 9.30am.

He was charged with two counts each of causing reckless grievous bodily harm in company and assault causing actual bodily harm, as well as one charge of affray.

Mr Pannu was granted conditional release the day of his arrest.

In Newcastle Local Court on Thursday, Magistrate Trevor Khan continued his bail.

The matter will be mentioned in court again on September 26.
