Leicestershire Police said a driver made his way along the M1 as he had a flight to catch, Leicestershire Live reports. The road closure was in place until about 8am and, despite the early hour, there were long queues and traffic cameras showed some motorists getting out of their cars as the standstill continued.
But instead of sitting patiently with everyone else, one driver behind the wheel of a white Mercedes - who was shamed this morning by the Leicestershire Police roads policing unit on Twitter - decided to make a break for it.
