Mercedes Denies Sabotage Allegations Against Lewis Hamilton

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain steers his car during the 1st practice session for the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix at the Barcelona Catalunya racetrack in Montmelo, near Barcelona, Spain, F

In a recent development at the Spanish Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed that police are currently investigating an email that was sent to motorsport journalists and Formula 1 teams. The email, originating from an anonymous account, alleges that Mercedes is deliberately sabotaging the performances of Lewis Hamilton following his decision to depart for Ferrari.

Wolff confirmed that the team is cooperating with the authorities in the investigation, stating that they are looking into the IP address and other digital footprints associated with the email. He dismissed the accusations as baseless 'conspiracy theories' and emphasized the longstanding relationship of trust and friendship between Hamilton and the team.

Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, announced his departure from Mercedes to join Ferrari in 2025 earlier this year. This decision marked the conclusion of a highly successful partnership that yielded multiple championships for the British driver.

Notably, Hamilton has faced stiff competition from his Mercedes teammate George Russell this season. Russell currently holds the seventh position in the drivers' standings, with a six-point lead over Hamilton in eighth place. Additionally, Russell has outperformed Hamilton in qualifying sessions in eight out of the nine races held so far.

Wolff reiterated the team's commitment to ending their partnership with Hamilton on a positive note and emphasized their shared goal of winning the constructors' world championship. He also condemned the online abuse directed at the team and Hamilton, calling for an end to such behavior.

The investigation into the email and its allegations underscores the intense scrutiny and speculation surrounding the dynamics within the Mercedes Formula 1 team as they navigate the remainder of the current season and prepare for the future.
