Mick Schumacher, son of legendary racer Michael, has been announced as Mercedes' reserve driver for the 2023 season after he was dropped by Haas.
It will come as a big relief for Schumacher, whose F1 future looked uncertain after Haas let him go and his contract with Ferrari as part of their driver academy was terminated.
Schumacher, 23, has parted ways with Ferrari after four years working together, but he now joins one of their biggest rivals in Mercedes - who have an interesting team on their hands with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell their main drivers.
Ferrari's partner team Haas dropped Schumacher in favour of Nico Hulkenberg next season.
A statement from Ferrari read: "Scuderia Ferrari and Mick Schumacher have mutually decided not to extend their collaboration, after working together for four years with Mick having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy.
"Scuderia Ferrari thanks Mick for these four years and the many kilometres covered together, and wishes him all the best for the future."
Soon after Ferrari's announcement, the Silver Arrows were very quick to announce the capture of Schumacher, and released a statement expressing their excitement.
Mercedes penned: "Mick will play an important role in the ongoing development of the W14. He will conduct regular work in the simulator at Brackley throughout the year, as we fight back from a challenging 2022 season.
"This work will be harnessed trackside as Mick will also attend all Grands Prix in his new role, alongside carrying out marketing duties across the year."
Schumacher endured a tough experience during his two seasons as an F1 driver with Haas. In his debut campaign, the German ended the season pointless in a rotten campaign for the US-based team.
And in 2022, his fortunes didn't get much better as he racked up only 12 points while he was involved in some heavy crashes which cost Haas dearly.
