Men who own snakes are mosssst likely to cheat on their partners

Husbands who own snakes are the mosssst likely to cheat on their partners.

So says a poll of 1,200 married philanderers who all had pets.

It found 20% of them owned a reptile – as well as being one.

But unfaithful husbands who had a pet bird such as a parrot or budgie were last in the top 10 pecking order at just 4% – and least likely to wing off for a fling.

Rat-owning love rats came in exactly halfway at 16%. And women should paws for thought before marrying men who love cats. They were second in the league table at 19%.

Lovers of lizards and tropical fish are likely to be angling for an affair at third and fourth in the lothario league. Women should also perhaps beware of dog lovers at 7th place. Hamster and rabbit owners need watching too.

But if he’s got a tortoise, he’s thankfully likely to be slow off the mark at cheating.

A spokesman for poll sponsors IllicitEncounters.com said: “Seems male reptile owners really are the biggest snakes.”

Jessica Leoni, sex and relationships expert at IllicitEncounters.com, said: “If you’re with a man with a pet snake, expect a cold-blooded affair to ensue.

“If you are looking for a man that doesn’t cheat, bird owners make up the least amount of affair-seeking pet dads.”

The love cheat pet league - with some men having more than one pet - in the study by married dating site Illicit Encounters, was found to be as follows;

1. Snake - 20 per cent

2. Cat - 19 per cent

3. Lizard - 18 per cent

4. Tropical fish - 17 per cent

5. Rat - 16 per cent

6. Hamster - 15 per cent

7. Dog - 14 per cent

8. Rabbit - 12 per cent

9. Tortoise - 10 per cent

10. Bird - 4 per cent
