The world's sixteen top men's hockey teams are jostling for the top spot in their respective pools at the FIH Hockey World Cup 2023, to achieve the first objective -- a direct spot in the quarterfinals.
According to the tournament rules, the teams have been divided into groups of four each, and the team ending on top of its respective pool is guaranteed a place in the last-eight stage. The teams ranked second and third in each pool will then play the crossover matches that will decide the remaining four quarterfinalists.
The bottom-ranked team in each pool will be eliminated.
