Members of train drivers’ union ASLEF held a meeting in Perth on Sunday before resuming negotiations over a wage dispute with ScotRail yesterday (June 6).
It comes after the group rejected the national train operator’s latest 4.2 per cent pay offer last week.
The dispute has had a major impact on services as a result of many drivers refusing to work overtime or on their rest days.
With delays over an agreement continuing, local commuters will now face a scaled back timetable for Sunday services as well as week days.
The Jubilee weekend was the first Sunday where the reduced services were operated and follows several weeks of serious disruption to Sunday services.
The rail operator, which has been nationalised by the Scottish Government, has had a reduced timetable from Monday to Saturday since May.
ScotRail said introducing the temporary greatly-reduced timetable will help provide “greater certainty and reliability for customers”.
Despite the adjusted timetable dozens of services across the country were cancelled on Sunday while others were terminated part way through their route.
Negotiations between the two parties are set to continue this week.
ScotRail service delivery director David Simpson said: “We’re sorry to customers for the disruption on Sundays over recent weeks so this temporary timetable will provide greater certainty and reliability for customers.
“We’re incredibly disappointed and frustrated that ASLEF bosses have rejected this improved pay offer. It’s astonishing that they will not even put this offer to their members.
“Our substantially improved pay offer reflects the cost-of-living challenges faced by families across the country, while balancing it against the need to provide value for the taxpayer.
“We have offered to meet ASLEF but, in the meantime, would urge them to reconsider this offer in the interest of their members and the future of the railway in Scotland.
“We’re asking customers to check their journey on our website, mobile app, and through our social media channels as train times will have changed.”
