On Wednesday evening, the Mavericks were on the road vs. the Pacers. Dallas lost in heart-breaking fashion 135-131. The team is now 1-9 in their last 10 games and has lost four straight.
Sources around the league have reported that Anthony Davis would like to make his return this season for Dallas. ESPN’s Tim MacMahon had an interesting report Wednesday surrounding Davis. He told the NBA Countdown crew that members of Dallas’ front office do not want Davis to play again in 2024-25.
Will Anthony Davis play another game this season for the Mavericks?
There are people within the Mavericks organization who have tried to talk Anthony Davis out of returning from his injury, per @espn_macmahon

When the Dallas Mavericks traded All-NBA PG Luka Doncic to the Lakers, they got NBA champion Anthony Davis in return. Doncic is significantly younger than Davis. Trading Luka away was a shocking move by the Mavericks. However, they felt they got a solid return by acquiring Davis. The 10-time all-star had an adductor strain when he was traded to Dallas.
Davis made his debut for the Mavericks on February 8. In 30 minutes, he had 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and three blocks. Unfortunately, Davis re-aggravated his adductor strain that same night and has been out since. He’s missed the last 15 games for Dallas. Reports say that Davis is trying to make his return before the end of the season.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that members of the Mavericks want Davis shut down for the season. They believe the risk-reward at this point in the year is too significant. If Davis suffers another serious injury, he could miss time in 2025-26. The big man is now a cornerstone of the franchise. Will they let him play again this season or shut him down? MacMahon also reported that Anthony Davis wants nothing to do with sitting if he can play. We’ll see how this all shakes out.
