'Melted' Easter eggs leave some Tesco and Sainsbury's shoppers angry

Tesco and Sainsbury’s shoppers have accused the supermarkets of “ruining” Easter after discovering their chocolate eggs were damaged and melted, or shops had run out of them altogether.

One customer shared a photo online that showed an Easter egg that had melted in on itself and looked discoloured, reports Birmingham Live. Natalie Kane said: “Ever so disappointed to find my Easter egg bought from my local Tesco Express store in this state when I opened it!”

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We take great care to ensure our Easter eggs are sold in the best possible condition. But on the rare occasion a customer is unhappy with the quality of their egg, we're happy to arrange a replacement or refund if the customer returns the item to store."

Leanne fumed: "Got this egg from one of your express stores & it is heat damaged. I was dubious when I got them, they were on the top shelf under the lights! It must’ve melted under the heat, filling is coming out of the small bars & the big egg is inedible. Scared to open the other one!"

Debra asked Tesco: "What is point of ordering Easter Eggs 2 weeks ago for home delivery today and “they are out of stock” so now have to go out to get some & no milk - seriously?" Teaandbikkie said: "Was in Tesco's at 11pm last night (to avoid crowds) met some very panicked people looking crushed there were no easter eggs left."

What to do if you've purchased a melted egg

The Consumer Rights Act means any products you buy must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If you've purchased an item that isn't up to standards, your first port of call should be to contact the supermarket for a refund or an exchange.

The same goes for if you've ordered an item for delivery, and it has arrived or breaks during transit. Sadly, the shop doesn't have to replace your item if it is out of stock but they should offer a refund if the item is genuinely not up to scratch.
