A Melbourne man has been found guilty of the stabbing murder of a young tradie during a fight in the city's south-east two years ago.
Jack Ledlin, 21, has been on trial in Victoria's Supreme Court for killing of Cameron Smith in Seaford in November 2020.
It took the jury less than 24 hours to reach a decision and there was a short burst of clapping when the verdict was read.
Ledlin had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but not guilty to the more serious charge of murder.
The jury had heard Mr Smith was on his way to watch the sunset at Seaford beach when the two men crossed paths on Station Street.
The court heard the pair did not know each other but Mr Smith's ex, Natasha Stroumos, and Ledlin's girlfriend, Scarlett Taylor, had previously had a run-in at a party.
Ms Stroumos told the court Ledlin and Ms Taylor, along with two others, had hurled abuse at the couple before the fatal fight broke out.
Mobile phone footage of the aftermath of the brawl was shown to the jury, with Mr Ledlin pictured with a bladed object in his hand.
Prosecutors alleged he plunged the blade into Mr Smith's heart.
The Supreme Court also heard that after Mr Smith collapsed, Mr Ledlin's friends surrounded the dying man and kicked him in the head before fleeing.
Paramedics were unable to save Mr Smith and he died from his injuries at the scene.
Defence lawyers had argued the then-19-year-old Ledlin accepted responsibility for Mr Smith's death, but did not have "murderous intent" during the fight.
Ledlin will return to court late next month for a plea hearing.
