Melbourne Demons players and staff test negative, clear to play Western Bulldogs

All Melbourne Demons players and staff have received negative COVID-19 test results, and are clear to attend the team's match against the Western Bulldogs.

There had been concerns about the game, after all Melbourne players and staff were forced to isolate and get tested on Thursday.

The move followed news that one of the Demons players had visited an exposure site in Melbourne.

That player has to self-isolate for 14 days, regardless of the result, although it is understood that the player has tested negative along with his teammates.

The marquee match between the Demons and Bulldogs, who are both 9-1 after 10 rounds, will be played tonight at Docklands behind closed doors, after the Victorian Government announced a seven-day statewide lockdown and banned fans from attending approved sporting events.

AFL chief Gillon McLachlan confirmed on Thursday that the crowd ban would likely be in place for this round only and that the league would monitor the situation before making any decisions on future rounds.

Two round 11 games have also had venues switched in light of the COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria.

The Gold Coast-Hawthorn match — originally scheduled to be played in Darwin — will now take place at the SCG on Saturday night.

Richmond was due to host Adelaide at the MCG on Sunday, but the two teams will now play at Sydney's Giants Stadium.

The Power's match against Fremantle at Adelaide Oval has been pushed back 40 minutes and will now begin at 5:20pm (AEST) as the umpires will be travelling from Perth.

All other matches will remain as scheduled.

More to come.
