A man arrested in Queensland's far north is expected to be charged over a series of suspected arson attacks in Victoria.
The 29-year-old was arrested in Cairns on Saturday, with police anticipating 17 charges including seven counts of arson, unlawful assault and committing an indictable offence while on bail.
The arrest comes after an extensive police investigation into a series of suspicious fires across Melbourne in December.
Police have applied for the man to be extradited to Melbourne, and he is expected to face Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday.
