Melanie Sykes says she was so devastated Matt Goss cheated on her she threw up instantly

Melanie Sykes has revealed she was so distraught when she found out her then-boyfriend Matt Goss, 54, had cheated on her, she instantly threw up.

Manchester-born Melanie, 52, who shot to fame as the Boddingtons’ Girl in the 90s, opened up about the visceral effect his infidelity had in her new autobiography Illuminated: Autism & All The Things I've Left Unsaid.

Mel and singer Matt, one half of iconic band Bros, dated from 1992 until 1997 after meeting on a blind date.

The presenter, who was once rumoured to be dating singer Olly Murs, has stayed on good terms with her former boyfriend, with Matt even calling her ‘one true love’ at a concert years after the split.

In an excerpt from her new book Illuminated: Autism & All The Things I've Left Unsaid, the mum-of-two recalls the reaction she had on finding out Matt had cheated on her.

She said: “I was dumbstruck, devastated and totally overwhelmed.

“I had been so worried about him being jealous of me, I couldn’t believe for all these years he had been, it seemed, prolifically unfaithful.

“I went to the bathroom and threw up.”

Mel also reveals how she found out about Matt’s cheating, explaining that although she noticed different numbers on his phone bill it wasn’t until another woman claimed to be the singer’s girlfriend that it all came out.

It’s believed that Matt attempted to repair the damage by asking Mel to marry him but it was too late and they split, although they have stayed the best of friends.

Detailing their relationship, former Big Breakfast host Mel said: “I wanted to laugh and have spontaneous sex and be free, but our lives were not like that. Matt was focused on his career and I just wanted to have a fun-loving relationship.”

Following their split Melanie went on to marry actor Daniel Caltagirone, 51, who she shares two sons with – Roman, 21, and Valentino Luca, 18.

They split in 2009 after eight years of marriage, with Mel getting hitched to Jack Cockings, who she met on Twitter in 2012, however their union only lasted six months.

Their split made headlines when Mel was arrested for assault following an argument.

She later admitted the offence and was cautioned for common assault after Metropolitan Police officers questioned the star.

Mel later took legal action in an attempt to get the caution withdrawn and it was soon removed from official records.

Speaking to The Times about the incident, Melanie claimed that the police officers didn't check both sides of the story when she was arrested.

They also reportedly didn't let her wait for a babysitter for her kids before they handcuffed her.

She went on to say that the Metropolitan Police officers overwhelmed her with many questions about show business following the cautioning.

She explained to the publication: "The doorbell went and I answered the door, and they told me that they were there to arrest me. I was just, like, 'You are joking.' I was totally shocked. It felt like an out-of-body experience. I've never ever been in trouble with the police. I'm not a violent person, I'm not capable of it."
