Melania Trump is set to make her first solo public appearance since resuming her role as first lady on January 20th. She will be heading to Capitol Hill on Monday to participate in a roundtable discussion regarding a bill aimed at expediting the removal of non-consensual intimate imagery, commonly known as revenge porn, from online platforms.
The bill, named the 'Take It Down Act,' was introduced by Senators Ted Cruz and Amy Klobuchar and was successfully passed by the Senate in February. Melania Trump's public endorsement of the legislation is expected to bolster its chances of passing through the Republican-controlled House and reaching President Donald Trump's desk for final approval.
The discussion, scheduled to take place in the Capitol's Mansfield Room, will be attended by lawmakers, online safety advocates, and survivors of non-consensual intimate imagery. This initiative aligns with Melania Trump's previous focus on online safety during her 'Be Best' youth initiative in the first Trump administration.
Despite maintaining a relatively low profile since the beginning of the current administration, Melania Trump has made select public appearances, including accompanying the president on visits to natural disaster sites in North Carolina and California. She also co-hosted a formal dinner for the nation's governors at the White House in February.
In addition to her participation in the roundtable discussion on Monday, the first lady is expected to attend President Trump's upcoming prime-time address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday.
