Mela Festival will bring celebration of live music, dance, street food and entertainment back to Perth this weekend

The Mela Festival, a highly anticipated celebration of live music, dance, street food and entertainment, will return to Perth this weekend.

The heart of Perth and Kinross will come alive as the event kicks off with a vibrant parade at noon on Saturday (June 10), following a successful showing in 2022.

Starting from Thimblerow, the parade will dance along the High Street and Tay Street, culminating in the North Inch, creating a dazzling display of colours, music and dance.

Free family entertainment will be spread across two captivating stages.

The music stage, sponsored by Woodside Car Sales Burrelton, will feature a line-up of performers including Sahara, Unison, Macumba, Rhythm Wave and more.

On the dance stage, sponsored by Perth and Kinross Common Good Fund and the National Lottery, festival-goers will see captivating performances by Chinese Lions and Dragons, Baila Venezuela, Flamenco, Julie Young Dancers, Pirie Performing Arts, and other talented dancers.

Visitors can indulge in the delectable offerings from street food vendors offering a taste of India, Greece and more, explore the kids and family mela zone, market and craft stalls.

There will also be opportunities to try something new from silent disco to circus skills with Adventure Circus, football fun with Saints in the Community or volleyball with Perth Beach Volleyball.

All activities are free.

Provost of Perth and Kinross, Xander McDade, said: “We’re excited to host the Mela Festival in Perth City once again, a celebration which brings together our vibrant and diverse communities.

“This free event showcases the richness of cultures in Perth and Kinross, uniting us through the universal language of music, dance and fun.

“I invite everyone to join us for a day filled with joy, friendship and an afternoon of colour and vibrancy.”
