ESPN analyst Mel Kiper has the New England Patriots selecting a wide receiver in his latest mock draft.
Kiper has New England taking Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams with that their first-round draft selection. New England is slated to pick 21st overall.
Williams caught 79 passes for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns last season for Alabama. One of the big question marks for Williams heading into the draft is his recovery from injury. The wideout suffered a torn ACL during the college football national championship game.
Williams split his collegiate career between Ohio State and Alabama. He tallied 94 receptions for 1,838 yards and 18 touchdowns in three years of collegiate football. Kiper had high praise for the wide receiver in his analysis.
“(Williams) said at the combine that he’s ahead of his schedule in his recovery, but it’s possible he misses a chunk of the season while rehabbing. New England could afford to wait for a receiver with true No. 1 upside who could be a star for years to come. And we know Belichick has a history of taking Alabama stars.”
The Patriots have several needs to fill in this upcoming draft. Wide receiver is certainly one of them, and Williams would give them a big-time playmaker at the position.
