Mel C says her 'niceness' irritated Mel B and caused spats during Spice Girls heyday

Mel C has opened up on the feuds she had with Mel B when the pair were in their Spice Girls heyday.

The singer also known as Sporty Spice is set to release her first autobiography later this week and the 48-year-old talks candidly about how life wasn't always rosy in the iconic girl band.

She revealed how she would often fall out with Scary Spice while the group was on the road and claimed the pair once needed to be pulled apart by band mate Geri Horner during a work trip to Los Angeles.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Mel C reminisced over the incident. She said: "We’d come back to the bar, we were on the port, so it was obviously one of those nights where there had been quite a few beverages. And Geri, trying to keep the peace and keep us apart, ended up getting clocked in the face.

"Maybe there was a clash of personalities because the nicer I was, the more irritated it made her."

However, she said the pair "love each other dearly" despite their fiery clashes. Mel went on to insist the five-piece group, which also featured Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham, have stayed close and admitted they all know they would never have had the same success if they didn't form the group.

She told the Daily Mail they can all drive each other nuts, but confessed they don't really fight anymore.

"We give each other the space that we need. We understand each other’s idiosyncrasies, you know. And if there’s anything that frustrates us about each other’s behaviour, we are just so much more respectful of that."

And, after saying it might sound cheesy, Mel gushed the group are more than friends in fact see each other as family.

Last month the band were on hand to wish Ginger Spice Geri a happy 50th birthday.

Geri shared a sweet snap to her social to mark the milestone. She's seen smiling at the camera as she posed in a swimsuit for a snap uploaded to Instagram. The image shows her dipping her toes in the sand and holding on to a copy of Holly Jackson's 2019 hit A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.

Geri captioned the post: "Best birthday ever! Thank you for all your lovely messages!"
