Mel C details furious spat with Mel B that resulted in Geri Horner being ‘clocked in the face’

Mel C has recalled getting into a furious spat with her Spice Girls bandmate Mel B at the height of the group’s fame.

The 48-year-old has recalled some of the band’s heated moments in their heyday ahead of the release of her first autobiography, Who I Am: My Story.

Recounting one fraught moment, the singer, also known as Sporty Spice, alleged that bandmate Geri Horner got “clocked in the face” trying to pull her and Mel B apart during a work trip to Los Angeles.

Detailing the story, she told The Sunday Times: “I can see us in our fluffy white robes at the Four Seasons in LA, and me and Melanie were getting a bit ‘grr grr grr’ after a night.

“We’d come back to the bar, we were on the port, so it was obviously one of those nights where there had been quite a few beverages. And Geri, trying to keep the peace and keep us apart, ended up getting clocked in the face.

“Maybe there was a clash of personalities because the nicer I was, the more irritated it made her. We love each other dearly, even though at times we probably wanted to kill each other.”

It’s not the first time she has spoken about her spats with Mel B, in fact she previously claimed that Scary Spice “bullied” her at the height of their fame.

The star sang about being bullied on her 2016 album Version of Me - and when asked if the perpetrator was Mel B in a 2019 interview with The Guardian, she nodded, but insisted that the issue had been addressed and she had “apologised”.

Despite tensions earlier in their career, the songstress has insisted that the band have remained close, with the performer recently attending Brooklyn Beckham’s wedding to Nicola Petltz in Palm Beach, and explained that they have new appreciation for each other.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, she shared: “We five know that individually we would not have achieved what we did together and we are so grateful to each other for that.

“Yes, we can get childish when we are together and, of course, we still drive each other nuts. There are still times when there’s a big blow up, but it soon blows over. We don’t really fight. We don’t fight any more. We give each other the space that we need.

“We understand each other’s idiosyncrasies, you know. And if there’s anything that frustrates us about each other’s behaviour, we are just so much more respectful of that. And it’s the only way to be. It might sound cheesy, but we are not just colleagues, we are not just friends, we are family.”

A representative for Mel B declined to comment when contacted by the Standard. A representative for Geri Horner has also been contacted for comment.
