Mehrdad Ghodoussi hails Newcastle United supporters for ‘rocking’ Leicester City stadium

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has praised the travelling fans for their support in the 3-0 win at Leicester City. Over 3,200 Geordies travelled to the King Power Stadium and watched their side coast to a comfortable festive victory.

Chris Wood and Miguel Almiron gave the Magpies a two-goal advantage after seven minutes before Joelinton added another before the break. Newcastle cruised to all three points in the second half and moved up to second in the Premier League.

The win was United’s sixth straight league win and 10th in 11 fixtures across all competitions. Supporters are now believing that the prospect of Champions League football could become a reality - despite being a pipe dream a few months ago.

Reaching the European promised land has not been achieved on Tyneside since the 2003-04 campaign, when Partizan Belgrade knocked Newcastle out in the third qualifying round. Two decades on, Toon chiefs will find their job a lot easier should United upset the apple cart.

One board member, Ghodoussi, cannot get enough of Eddie Howe’s squad. The co-owner eulogised the players after their latest post-match picture while paying homage to the travelling supporters.

Replying to a picture of jubilant Newcastle players in the changing room captioned: "What a team," Ghodoussi tweeted: "Couldn’t agree more. Also a big thank you to our travelling supporters….you rocked the King Power stadium."
