Alan Shearer has asked if Newcastle United fans can bring their black-and-white scarves 'every week' after creating a 'bloody brilliant' atmosphere in the Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City. The Magpies booked their place in the League Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1976 with a 2-0 success over the Foxes on Tuesday night.
Eddie Howe's side shrugged off the disappointment of the FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday just three days before to deliver a dominant display against their Premier League rivals. The hosts were unable to find the breakthrough before the break despite a superb first-half showing, but goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton secured a deserved win for the Magpies.
The Toon Army responded magnificently to Wor Flags' social media initiative to bring their scarves for the eagerly anticipated quarter-final tie at St James' Park. The sellout crowd recreated the scarf twirling which swept the stands during Shearer's testimonial in May 2006.

Burn and Sean Longstaff both backed the initiative ahead of the cup clash, with the former among those in attendance to celebrate the career of Newcastle's all-time record goalscorer. The defender believes the scarves contributed to an 'absolutely electric' atmosphere, and the latest instance has now drawn praise from the man himself.
Shearer was among the thousands in attendance as Newcastle ended their League Cup hoodoo, and he took to social media following the full-time whistle to praise the atmosphere. He posted: "Can we keep the scarfs like this every week please. Bloody brilliant man. Great to be there."
Mehrdad Ghodoussi was among those to agree with the request, with the Newcastle co-owner replying 'yes please'. Ghodoussi himself paid tribute to the atmosphere, thanking Wor Flags for their 'unbelievable' efforts 'as usual'.
He wrote: "Never gets old. Our 12th man. Proud of the boys tonight and proud of this club and city."
