Meghan has told of her shock at the royal family’s formality even behind closed doors.

Speaking in the bombshell Harry & Meghan Netflix documentary released Thursday, the former actress told how she initially thought Harry was joking about having to curtsy to the Queen.

In episode two of the six-episode long series, she said: “Even when Will and Kate came over, I had met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot.

“I was a hugger, I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside.

“That formality carries over on both sides and that was surprising to me.”

Prince Harry also revealed that the Queen was the first senior member of the royals that Meghan met, and that she had “no idea what it all consisted of”.

He said: “It was a bit of a shock to the system for her.”

Meghan added: “I mean it’s surreal. There wasn’t like a big moment of ‘Now you’re going to meet my grandmother’.

“I didn’t know I was going to meet her until moments before. We were in the car and we were going to the Royal Lodge for lunch and he was like ‘Oh my grandmother is here, she’s going to be there after church.’

“We were in the car driving up and he was like, ‘You know how to curtsy right?’.And I just thought it was a joke … Now I’m starting to realise this is a big deal.”

The eye-opening documentary also reveals that Meghan had to have her security assessed while dating Prince Harry and working on the show Suits as an actress because of a death threat.

She said she was often surrounded by paparazzi at her home in Toronto, and that she unsuccessfully went to the police for help.

She said: “I would say to the police, if any other woman in Toronto said to you I have six grown men who are sleeping in their cars around my house who follow me everywhere that I go and I feel scared, wouldn’t you say that it was stalking?

“And they said yes but there’s really nothing we can do because of who you’re dating.”
