Meghan's popularity with the British public falls to a new low

New polling suggests that public sentiment towards the Duchess of Sussex has dropped to an all-time low, with seven out of 10 people harbouring a negative view of her. According to YouGov, Meghan’s net favourability amongst the public has plummeted to -47, the lowest score since the company began tracking her public approval rating in 2017.

Around 68% of the public have a negative opinion of her, contrasted by just one in five (21%) who hold a positive view, as per a YouGov survey of 2,014 people. The polling also revealed a dip in public favourability for the Duke of Sussex, which has fallen to -36, a slight decrease from -34 in April. However, this represents an improvement from his January standing of -44.

The Princess Royal enjoys the highest popularity among the royals, with a net favourability of +60. The King is viewed positively by six out of 10 (62%) people, with a net favourability rating of +32. While this is a decrease from his +48 rating in September when he ascended the throne, it's an improvement from April's +26 prior to the coronation.

The Queen's net favourability has seen a slight decline to +4, a five-point drop from April's rating of +9. However, this is still higher than Camilla's initial favourability score of -15 when YouGov first began tracking it in 2011.

Prince William's net favourability has risen to +57, with polls suggesting that 75% of Britons hold a positive view of the future king. This is a five-point increase from his April standing of +52 prior to the coronation.

His wife, the Princess of Wales, has also seen a boost in favourability post-coronation, climbing five points to +59 from April's +54. YouGov states that the public's approval of the monarchy as an institution has risen to +25 from April's +19, prior to the coronation.

However, this remains lower than the +44 rating recorded in September. YouGov calculates net favourability as the difference between the number of people expressing a positive view and those with a negative view.

In the case of Meghan, 68% reported a negative view of her, contrasted by 21% who expressed a positive view, with 11% responding "don't know". This results in a net favourability score of -47.
