Meghan's bridesmaid dress tailor speaks out after claims Princess Charlotte was 'in tears'

The tailor of Meghan Markle's bridesmaids dresses has spoken out following claims Princess Charlotte was left 'in tears' due to the ill-fitting dress.

In Prince Harry's highly anticipated memoir Spare, he detailed the exchange between Meghan and Kate Middleton that left his wife 'sobbing' on the floor. Harry, 37, recalled that Meghan, 41, received a text from Kate, 41, about the dresses needing to be altered.

According to Harry's book, Meghan told Kate that their tailor would be making his way to the Kensington Palace. He added that this response “wasn’t sufficient”, before sharing the alleged text conversation between the two women, reports the Mirror.

Luxury suit and dressmaker Ajay Mirpuri explained that he and his team had to work at Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle for four days before the royal wedding in 2018, after discovering that none of the bridesmaids' Givenchy dresses fitted.

He explained that while he didn't witness any row between Kate and Meghan, he added that it's "nerve-wracking" to find out that a dress does not fit properly. Despite the stress, the dresses were fitted correctly and the tailor said it was a sad that the row between the two overshadowed the fact that the bridesmaids "looked fabulous".

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mr Mirpuri said: "If anything happened in the background, it didn't happen in front of me."

“But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times – and especially one at this high level; you’ve got to respect that. They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches. I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting – it’s nerve-wracking,” Mirpuri added.

He continued: "I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren't fitting – it's nerve-wracking. I feel for them all, because you wouldn't want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress – and that's what they were. All six bridesmaids' dresses had to be fixed, and we did it."

According to Prince Harry's account, four days before his wedding Kate sent a message to Meghan saying that her daughter Charlotte was upset at the ill-fitting gown. “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy,” the Princess of Wales’s text said, according to Harry. “She cried when she tried it on at home.”

Harry then claimed that Meghan responded with: “Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since eight am. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other moms are doing?”

In her reply, Kate allegedly said that “all of the dresses need to be remade”. Harry also claimed that Kate’s wedding dress designer Sarah Burton had agreed with her.

Harry claims the row was largely driven by Kate, who was angered at having to wait a day to hear back from Meghan about the issue, left Meghan "sobbing on the floor". The Duke goes on to claim Meghan's suggestion of bringing the dress to a tailor on standby at Kensington Palace "wasn't sufficient" and Kate insisted "all the dresses need to be remade".

Around the time of the Sussexes wedding, it was widely reported that Meghan had made the Princess of Wales cry over an argument over bridesmaids dresses.
