Meghan Markle was used to brutally mock England fans - and painful loss was 'revenge'

Despite being nowhere near the Euro 2020 final - Meghan Markle found herself being centre of attention due to a brutal banner.

The Duchess of Sussex and husband Prince Harry were not at Wembley to watch England lose to Italy in the cruellest fashion in the summer of 2021.

Gareth Southgate's men went 1-0 up thanks to a rapid Luke Shaw goal in the opening minutes of the game, but they were pegged back by the Italians in the second half.

Sadly, the Three Lions struggled during an agonising penalty shootout and did not get their hands on what would have been the nation's first trophy since 1966.

Prince William was in attendance at the Euro 2021 final along with wife Kate Middleton and eldest son Prince George, who is following in his dad's footsteps as a big football fan.

A delighted George, who looked very smart in his suit, could be seen hugging his parents when the England goal went in.

While Meghan and Harry weren't at the match, their presence was felt because of a banner made by some Italian supporters.

They ironically waved a red, white and green Italian flag which had a rather cheeky message written in the middle.

In black marker pen were the words: "Meghan One Of Us."

It was clearly a dig at the Royal Family's rift with the Duchess of Sussex, who stepped down as a senior royal along with her husband.

While it could be seen as a purely nice gesture towards the former Suits actress, it was definitely meant to wind up a number of England fans.

Meghan hasn't received much support from many people in this country over the years, so a lot of her fans claimed the England defeat was 'revenge'.

"We all prayed in the name of Meghan Markle for Italy to win and they f*g DID!!! #ITA," wrote one person on Twitter.

Another fan of Meghan and Harry wrote: "Thank you Italy for doing it for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. I love watching that country sad it makes me happy."

"Whatever, I can't feel sorry for Brits," a third savagely wrote, although many British people outside of England would have been incredibly happy with the result.

They continued: "They have been super mean since Meghan and Harry opted to give up their royal duties.

"And to be honest Italy played better both in the final and throughout the tournament."

Others made up some savage images to mock England fans after the defeat, including a photoshopped snap of Meghan holding an Italy flag.

To further poke fun, they mocked England's 'It's coming home' chant with the caption: "It's coming Rome!"

If that wasn't enough, someone else got a snap of the Prince and Princess of Wales, alongside Prince George, looking gutted after the defeat.

But to really twist the knife in, they put a picture of Meghan laughing over the top.

Some even started posting images of Meghan at variance events wearing red, green and white dresses - the colours of the Italian flag.

Brutal!
