Meghan Markle 'upset and overwhelmed' at outrageous roasting on South Park

A typically acerbic depiction of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry by US comedy show South Park has left the duchess "upset and overwhelmed", it has been reported.

The high-profile couple were branded "dumb and stupid" in the irreverent cartoon's recent episode cleverly called 'The Worldwide Privacy Tour', which aired on February 15.

A description for last week's programme references a "prince and his wife" trying to "find privacy and seclusion in a small mountain town", in a clear jibe at the former working royals.

The Mirror reports how while the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's names were absent from the show, it was clear who the fictional 'Prince and Princess of Canada' were supposed to be.

The animated satirical series, which first aired in March 1998, landed plenty of brutal swipes at the couple throughout the episode. Dressed in an outfit similar to the Duchess of Sussex wore during Trooping the Colour in 2018, the female character is described as a "sorority girl, actress, influencer, victim" by another.

The prince's publicity tour for his autobiography 'Waaagh' - which has strikingly similar resemblance to Prince Harry's memoir Spare - despite demanding privacy from everybody.

However, the portrayal of the Sussexes in the TV show has "upset and overwhelmed" Meghan over the last few days, according to a source, reports The Spectator. They also added that she "is annoyed by South Park but refuses to watch it all".

One royal commentator has claimed that the couple "could call in the lawyers" against the hit-Comedy Central show.

Neil Sean told Fox News: "According to sources close to the ex-royals, it appears that, like so many things with Meghan and Harry, this may have legal ramifications attached.

"Their legal team are casting an eye over the episode to see what is wrong, and what could be turned into something more sinister."

Show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are renowned for hilariously mocking a wide range of celebs, but some felt they went 'too far' with one gag, where they very accurately recreated a load of Meghan's real life magazine covers.

There were cartoon versions of the Vanity Fair front page she did before she wed Harry, and one she recently did for The Cut to promote her Spotify podcast.

But the most controversial one is a spoof of GQ, which in real life had the headline 'Meghan's annus mirabilis', which translates from Latin to 'Meghan's wonderful year'. However, the South Park version controversially read: "Princess Anus."

Most people found the new episode hilarious, including the Sussexes' biggest critic Piers Morgan, who tweeted: "The South Park rinsing of Meghan & Harry is lethally brilliant… suspect this is how most Americans now feel about them."
