Meghan Markle takes hidden swipe at royal life with pointed podcast quote, says expert

Meghan Markle appeared to take a veiled swipe at royal life by ending her podcast series with a telling quote, an expert has said.

The finale of Spotify series Archetypes, which aims to explore "labels that try to hold women back", saw Meghan chat to male guests TV producer Andy Cohen, movie director Judd Apatow and comedian Trevor Noah.

And as she signed off from the last of the 12 episodes of this series, she told listeners how it had made her "feel seen".

She added: "I heard a quote that I will share with you today because we talked about the label, tropes and boxes some may try to squeeze you into and the roles and stereotypes that are attributed to you, that don't quite fit the full person that you are.

“It's from a couplet within a piece of writing by Greek poet Dinos Christianopoulos.

“And he says 'What didn't you do to bury me?'

"‘But you forgot that I was a seed to that point'. My friend, keep growing and I'll see you on the flip side as ever.”

And according to royal expert and biographer Phil Dampier, the quote was aimed at the royals.

He told The Sun : "I'm sure that it was a veiled reference to the restrictions of the Royal Family.

“It's a clever way of doing it because she’s not directly saying something but people can still read into it what they like.

“Then if anyone takes offence she can say 'oh I didn't mean it like that’."

Meghan quit as a working royal almost three years ago to move back to the US with husband Prince Harry - and criticised royal life in a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey last year.

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the new podcast, Meghan insisted she will not appear in a reality TV show - despite a Netflix docuseries focusing on her and Harry reportedly being released next week.

The duchess made the comments as she admitted she stopped watching the Real Housewives series when her life had its "own level of drama".

Real Housewives executive producer Andy Cohen quizzed Meghan on whether she still watched the Housewives TV franchise which follows the lives of affluent women in different cities in the US and the UK, joking he would build a show around her.

The Duchess said: "I stopped watching the Housewives when my life had its own level of drama that I stopped craving…" , with Cohen injecting "other people's", and Meghan agreeing "Yeah."

Cohen, also the host of US talk show Watch What Happens Live, told Meghan there was speculation in Los Angeles when she moved back to the US that she could join the Beverly Hills Housewives.

"I never heard that … you mean really this is my audition for Real Housewives in Montecito?" she remarked.

Cohen joked: "You don’t have to audition. We’ll build the show around you."

"There will be no reality show", Meghan said laughing, with Cohen replying: "I know, I know."

Meghan’s remarks come ahead of her Netflix docuseries which is reported to be airing on December 8, focusing on the Sussexes’ own story. It has not yet been confirmed if Archetypes will return for a second season.
