Meghan Markle has been branded "selfish" by her former pal Lizzie Cundy following the confirmation she will not be attending King Charles' upcoming Coronation.
It was announced by Buckingham Palace this week that Meghan would remain in California for the celebrations while Prince Harry would be representing the Sussexes solo at the Coronation of Charles and Queen Camilla.
In recent years, the relationship between the Sussexes and the House of Windsor has broken down, with Meghan and Harry returning to the UK less than five times since turning their backs on royal life in 2020.
While Meghan's decision to not attend has been hailed as "inspirational" by some, the decision hasn't gone down too well with her former friend, Lizzie Cundy.
The pair met in 2013 when Lizzie was asked to sit with the actress at a charity event held by her pal John Caudwell, Meghan allegedly wanted a role on Made In Chelsea and Lizzie attempted to set her up with Ashley Cole.
However, when Meghan met Harry, she cut all contact with her British pals, including Lizzie.
Speaking to the Mirror, the television presenter and trained actress said: "I think Meghan is not coming to the Coronation because she knows she's going to get booed but she's putting her own feelings and worries about being booed before her children.
"I think it's a travesty that Lilibet and Archie are not going to be at their grandfather's Coronation.
"What will Harry and Meghan say to them when they're older? When they say 'Why weren't we there at the most historical moment in British history? Why weren't we on that balcony?'"
Lizzie went on to add: "What will Meghan answer? 'I knew I was going to get booed so I didn't want to go.'
"She's putting herself before anyone and in fact, Harry by boasting about the Taliban has put his own family and the security threat at its highest form.
"Not only the Royal Family but the whole nation."
"I think the two of them are utterly selfish," Lizzie fumed before saying: "I find it really sad not just for Lilibet and Archie who are going to miss out on the biggest monumental day but for King Charles who yet again won't see his grandchildren and they won't be able to enjoy this special day with him.
"I really do think they should hang their heads in shame, I do believe Archie and Lilibet when they grow up will say 'Mummy and daddy, why did you stop us going?'"
In a brief statement on Wednesday, the palace said: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on 6th May.
"The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
There had been speculation for months whether they would attend after the couple hadn't responded to an official invitation.
