After much uncertainty, it has been revealed that Prince Harry will be attending his father King Charles III's Coronation without his wife, Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex missed the April 3 deadline to say whether they were going to attend or not, But on Thursday, April 12, it was confirmed that the Duke would be attending solo.
While Meghan Markle has spoken highly of her father-in-law, who walked her down the aisle on her wedding day, she has decided to remain at the pair's California home, according to Buckingham Palace with their two children Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.
It has been reported that there were a number of factors which influenced the Duchess' decision not to fly over.
And it has been said that Meghan, 41, believes her future to be in the US, with one friend telling The Telegraph that's where she is very much focused.
There has also been talk that her appearance at the Coronation following controversial interviews and the couple's Netflix documentary, could risk overshadowing the once in a generation occasion.
It is understood that the Sussexes have been concerned about how their attendance might be received by the British public, especially after their bombshell Netflix documentary series dropped at the end of 2022.
Another of key reasons is apparently that mum-of-two Meghan wanted to celebrate Archie's fourth birthday, which also falls on May 6.
Then there are family matters. In his contentious autobiography, Spare, Prince Harry claimed there was a frosty relationship between his wife, and the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton.
He claimed the Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall demanded an apology from Meghan after she apparently suggested Kate had "baby brain".
Prince Harry was also reportedly holding out for an apology from his family, specifically his father and brother, which he asked for in television interviews in January 2023, saying he wanted to reconcile with the King and Prince of Wales.
Both the King and Prince William are said to feel deeply betrayed by personal family revelations made by Prince Harry in his memoir and various interviews, with members of the Royal Family apparently watching what they say around the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for fear it will end up televised and used against them.
Prince Harry's presence at his father's Coronation will see him join close family members for the first time since the funeral of Queen Elizabeth last September.
However, he is not expected to take part in the King's Procession or Coronation Procession to and from Buckingham Palace, as he has stepped down as a working member of the royal family. It is also for this reason he is not expected to appear on the palace balcony.
In a statement, the Palace said: "Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet."
