The Duchess of Sussex is seeking to heal the four-year rift with her father Thomas Markle and has reached out to his camp in a bid to make amends, the Mirror reports.
The news came after Mr Markle left hospital having suffered a stroke. The stroke was caused by a blood clot on the right side of his brain. He is believed to have been in hospital in San Diego, a three-hour drive from the Sussexes' California mansion.
The 77-year-old said: "I feel hugely grateful and know how lucky I am to be alive. I want to thank everyone, especially the wonderful doctors and nurses who saved my life.
“I have been deeply moved by loving messages I’ve received from all over the world. I can’t speak right now, but I am working hard and will thank people properly when I can.”
Meghan arrived in the UK this week alongside the Duke of Sussex their children, ahead of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. A source said:“Despite their estrangement, Meghan is concerned. She wants to know if there is any way to contact her father privately, without other family knowing about it or having to get involved.”
Meghan is believed to be concerned that contacting her father will mean dealing with half-siblings Thomas Jr and Samantha, who has launched a defamation case against the duchess. A source said: “Meghan can’t contact her half-siblings because she believes they have their own agendas.
“If she can contact their dad, she wants it to be totally private. It won’t involve Netflix, it won’t involve any photographs and it must not involve any tip-offs to the paparazzi.”
Meghan’s relationship with her father broke down after he posed for paparazzi pictures being measured for his suit ahead of her 2018 wedding, which he then missed. The Prince of Wales walked her down the aisle at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. Thomas has never met Harry or his grandchildren Archie, three, and Lilibet, who is one next Saturday.
Meghan’s team was contacted for comment.
